it used to be, about five years ago, when SEO (search engine optimization) was the thing of each online publisher. From blogs like this one, all the up to huge content producing sites like NYTimes.com, the hub was dead set on search optimization and getting higher rankings in Google and the exclusive environment of Google News.
however there’s a shift happening in the way online publishers are generating the highest volume, and the highest quality traffic. And that Facebook is becoming extra valuable than Google.
Oh snap… I did not just say that did I?
Oh yeah, you heard me right – Facebook is becoming (or perhaps already is) the more authoritative referral source of online traffic to sites than Google.
And how do I identify this, you ask?
Let’s take a seem at The New York Times new paywall structure – the strategy implemented to charge for online content.
The New York Times set up a paywall used for it’s online edition (NYTimes.com) where you can study up to 20 articles per month for free from the site.
Traffic from Google information will be charged after only 5 visits per month..

hence why would The New Yorks Times charge after 20 visits to their site, and after 5 visits from Google News, but completely exempt traffic from Facebook and Twitter?
To put it simply, communal networks are driving a massive amount of traffic to newspaper sites.
Is SEO dead then?
I don’t believe so, because you still have the relevance and shear volume of search traffic happening on Google.  Articles that obtain a top ranking from your site for long tail keywords can be a long term source of continual traffic to your site.
except for sites that are active, producing multiple articles per day on news worthy stories, the NYT is finding that social networks are more valuable than Google.
Why you require a blog and Facebook Fan Page
This brings me to the reason of my title.
I believe we are at the very forefront of the bearing of Facebook, Twitter, and social networking.

Why People are Missing Your Facebook Fan Page Updates


It can be Valentine’s Day, but I have no love in my heart for FaceBook right now.Sometimes I hope they would just leave things alone.  As soon as we catch used to how everything works, they change it up on us.

New Facebook Fan Page Updates

If you chose to update your fan page to the new layout, which will be mandatory in March, you may be wondering what happened to your most recent posts made by some fans.
They essentially are here.  They’ve just been reorder.  With the fresh update, the “friends” you’ve interacted with recently and/or the most get top billing, while the other posts get buried further down the page.
The thought of the new Facebook update is to prioritize and feature the people and fan pages you interact with the most on your news feed.  I coincide this makes sense among your personal Facebook account since most populace don’t cooperate with every one their “friends” and facebook fan pages they “Like.”
everybody has their favorites, so it’s convenient to see those first.  In fact, this feature is not truly new.  FaceBook has been doing this for fairly some time with the news feeds, but they’ve recently just kicked it up a notch and applied this logic to facebook fan pages.

However, my genuine issue with the update is the new default posting order on the fan page.  It now makes sense to have the most recent post displayed first, and if that’s no longer the default, at least give us the option to change it.
I suppose they figured adding the email notification for every new post would placate us, but I find it ridiculous that I have to go hunt and peck for the new posts because the are buried somewhere on the page.  It too decreases the chances of people interacting and replying to the latest posts.

While there appears to be no fix for the fan page posting order, you can do something about reappearing on your fan’s news feeds.
Perhaps add a informal note to a prominent area on your site or even create a quick blog post that educates them. For example…
